grantenatal

Give the grandparents in your life a fun, confidence‑boosting update on all things babycare.
Each Grantenatal Workshop includes two lively 90‑minute Zoom sessions plus an easy‑to‑use information pack filled with trusted, evidence‑based resources.

“What exactly is tummy time? Can you spoil a baby by holding them too much? What is that carrier my son is wearing? What counts as safe sleep these days? And seriously—where did the talc go?”

If these questions sound familiar, you’re in the right place.

The Grantenatal Workshop is a refresher course for grandparents to be and new grandparents, designed to bridge the gap between “how we did it then” and “what we know now.”

Unlike many traditional grandparent classes, this workshop focuses entirely on up to date, research based guidance on birth, feeding, sleep, and modern babycare—delivered in a friendly, clear, and non-patronising way.

I’ve shared this work on BBC radio, in national magazines, and at WI group meetings, and I’m passionate about helping fellow grandparents feel informed and empowered.

Sign up and, in just a few enjoyable hours, you’ll feel completely up to speed—and quite possibly become the most up to date grandparent in town.

Click the button above to book your place, or use the contact form below if you'd like to know more.

The session is fully live and interactive on Zoom— you’ll be talking with me, not watching a pre-recorded video. Join in the chat or keep your camera off if you prefer.

To keep things relaxed and avoid information overload, the workshop runs over two early evening sessions (6:00–7:30pm) on different weekdays through the year, making it easy to find a time that works for you.

After the workshop, you’ll receive a curated collection of videos, articles, and reliable websites, all yours to access anytime.

If your family is expecting a new arrival soon, there’s someone in the family who will love a Grantenatal Workshop!

Grantenatal course - Excellent! Highly recommended! Evidence-based course outlining what’s changed since grandparents had their own children. I felt confident that what I learned was backed up by scientific research, lots of useful resources were provided which I can access when the need arises.

I was a bit indignant when my son mentioned it … I think I said he was obviously a miracle baby as he’d survived my parenting! - but focussing on what had changed in the intervening years was very interesting. It was also helpful to know what [the new parents] had been learning... But also to stress that a lot HASN’T changed.

grandparents refresher course on Zoom with The Baby Experience
Absolutely brilliant Grantenatal class on Zoom.
I am so glad I ignored friends who said “you don’t need that, you’ve had two children”! I had mine over 30 years ago, and the class focuses on what has changed in that time - which is quite a lot!
Sarah covered a huge amount of ground, never rushing, giving plenty of time for us to ask questions. A very full and informative 3 hours.

Dear Sarah, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed and learnt from your Grantenatal. It was excellent. I now feel inspired and so much better prepared for my role as ‘grandparent’. My daughter is asking me loads of questions and I now feel up to date and informed to chat to her about things….I really really appreciate you running this course. I would like to see them integrated into child care services as I think wider family care adds so much, not just to the individual child, but to our society as a whole.

Such a brilliant idea and I now feel so much better equipped to be a useful and supportive granny”

“An amazing amount of information was given and I am still processing some of it!”

“I feel much more prepared to help my daughter and baby with up to date knowledge so we are singing from the same hymn sheet”

“Sarah covered a great deal of valuable information in the workshop. It was serious and sensitive but also friendly, with members encouraged to participate. Through the workshop I feel calmer and more confident that I can play the best part I can for my grandchild and their parents”

What is covered in the two 90 minute sessions of the Grantenatal Workshop:

  • the best (and worst) gifts for new families

  • birth choices

  • the microbiome

  • breast milk research and all aspects of baby feeding

  • postnatal mental wellness

  • safe sleeping for babies

  • sleep training

  • what we’ve learned about babies’ brains

  • bathing

  • nappies

  • babywearing - slings and carriers

  • baby-led weaning

  • A regularly updated background information list will be sent to you after the course

Thoroughly recommend this course for any new/pending grandparents. It focuses on what’s changed, the course is very engaging and full of up to date practical advice and information. We feel very equipped to help without interfering and our son and daughter-in-law are delighted that we made the effort to be aligned. Thank you Sarah - this was a very informative with high quality content and access to lots of useful resources that I would not have heard about if I hadn’t done your course.

Some more things grandparents say about the Grantenatal Workshop…

“We thoroughly enjoyed the course. It did exactly what we expected and brought us up to speed with all the vast number of changes in the last 40 years since our own NCT classes. It was also fun.

— Carole

“Such a lot of information presented with kindness and understanding to help me be the best granny that I can be.”

— Elizabeth

“I learnt a lot so feel prepared to help my daughter when her baby arrives. I now feel up to date with how things have moved on since I had my children.”

— Rebecca

“A very informative session which used a variety of teaching methods. I learnt a lot, especially the changes to childbirth/ child rearing techniques since I had my children! (In the 80s). We were also sent a link for further information on all manner of topics which will be useful for both parents and the supportive grandparents. Very good value for money I would say. Thank you very much, Sarah at The Baby Experience.”
