What’s tummy time? Is my daughter spoiling her baby by picking him up? Why is my son wearing a papoose thing? What’s safe sleep? And where’s the talcum powder gone?
To answer all these baffling questions and many more, we invite you and your family members to the Grantenatal Workshop: a grandparent refresher course for grandparents-to-be and new grandparents!
Mine is the original Grantenatal Workshop. It’s not like other grandparent courses you may come across. I do not waste time telling experienced parents what they already know. I focus on updating the grandparent’s knowledge with the latest research around babies: whether it be birth, feeding, sleeping or just caring.
Click on the button above to book a place; or if you want to know more, send me the contact form below.
The course is a live, interactive Zoom presentation. It is not a pre-recorded course: participants are welcome to join in the chat (or if they prefer they may leave their cameras and mics off for privacy).
The course is pretty intensive, so to avoid frying your brain, it is delivered in two sessions of 90 minutes each, spread over two weekday evenings around cocktail hour (6.00 to 7.30pm). Days of the week vary across the year…we hope this will enable more grandparents and grandparents-to-be to take part in the session.
After each course I send the participants an easily accessed collection of reputable, evidence-based information sources - including videos, articles, links to high quality information websites. The participants have access to this collection indefinitely.
If you are expecting a new member of the family soon, there is sure to be someone in the family who would enjoy the Grantenatal Workshop!
Grantenatal is a registered trademark.
I was a bit indignant when my son mentioned it … I think I said he was obviously a miracle baby as he’d survived my parenting! - but focussing on what had changed in the intervening years was very interesting. It was also helpful to know what [the new parents] had been learning... But also to stress that a lot HASN’T changed. - PF
In the past 30 years a lot has changed in the world of babies - not just in terms of fashion but thanks to science and research too. We know more about how their brains work and how to keep them safe and flourishing than ever before. That’s why a grandparenting class can be a real eye-opener! Here’s a recent batch of our well-informed grandparents-to-be:
The Baby Experience is about grandparents too. Today’s modern grandparents don’t want to be behind the times and the Grantenatal Workshop is the perfect way to refresh your wisdom!
What you get in the Grantenatal Workshop:
As a grandparent myself I’m very aware of how knowledge and practice around birthing and babies have changed since I first went through the transition to parenthood. That’s why I have devised the Grantenatal - a grandparent refresher course. It’s a three hour workshop for those who:
Want to brush up their knowledge of baby care and safety
Are curious about how science has changed our understanding of birth, the newborn, feeding and sleep.
The easily-accessed workshop delivered in 2 90 minute sessions via Zoom (so you can log in from anywhere) will update you (or your family member) on:
the best (and worst) gifts for new families
birth choices
the microbiome
breast milk research and all aspects of baby feeding
postnatal mental wellness
safe sleeping for babies
sleep training
what we’ve learned about babies’ brains
bathing
nappies
babywearing - slings and carriers
baby-led weaning
A regularly updated background information list will be sent to you after the course
Time for discussion and your questions answered
A chance to meet online with other grandparents to be and swap stories

Some more things grandparents say about the Grantenatal Workshop…
“We thoroughly enjoyed the course. It did exactly what we expected and brought us up to speed with all the vast number of changes in the last 40 years since our own NCT classes. It was also fun.
— Carole
“Such a lot of information presented with kindness and understanding to help me be the best granny that I can be.”
— Elizabeth
“I learnt a lot so feel prepared to help my daughter when her baby arrives. I now feel up to date with how things have moved on since I had my children.”
— Rebecca
“A very informative session which used a variety of teaching methods. I learnt a lot, especially the changes to childbirth/ child rearing techniques since I had my children! (In the 80s). We were also sent a link for further information on all manner of topics which will be useful for both parents and the supportive grandparents. Very good value for money I would say. Thank you very much, Sarah at The Baby Experience.”
